I looked - really good ideas there. Boy, figs are everywhere right now!!

I looked, too. It was not as scary as I thought. I agree, figs seem to be the IN thing right now.

I think I've got a grip on the fig problem here. William planted a persimmon tree out at the farm. He was bragging about the ONE HUGE persimmon on his little tree. He was anxious about beating the "critters" to the fruit. While walking through the grocery store together (a rare occasion) last week, we noticed some persimmons. He checked them out to see what they needed to feel like when ready. He decided to wait a few more days. MY suggestion was to take note of what big time farmers do....pick it a little green and let it ripen off the tree/vine/bush. So that's what he did the next day. It worked perfectly! So next year, our pears and figs will be picked slightly green and placed in the green house to finish ripening! We'll beat those critters yet!

Thanks, Maryann. The pear chutney with goat cheese caught my eye. He puts out marinated olives with cheeses. We go through a lot of figs. We get them semi dried in a 15 lb bag. some get put down in port, some in balsamic vinegar.
