Sauces for a party... - luvnit - 05-25-2011 Okay this is not my party, but for a very special person in our lives. My daughter's first (home visit) teacher is having a party for her hubby's 60th. They are both very nice and wonderful people. She is doing a pulled turkey and pulled beef. I have agreed to make sauces for the event. This is what I have decided: Sweet BBQ White BBQ Chimichurri Ketchup Grandmere (from this forum) Jamaican Jerk (fron Billy) Any thoughts from anyone would be appreciated and welcomed especially a nice, sweet bbq sauce I can use for a 'everyone' likes it sauce. I am bringing the sauces in squirt bottles so anyone can choose their own. Are there any flaws in this thinking? Re: Sauces for a party... - Mare749 - 05-25-2011 I love your ideas, Laura. What is in the white BBQ sauce? The following is a recipe that I've made a few times and it was a hit with my family. I'm pretty sure I got it from someone on this forum, but unfortunately didn't save that information. So, whoever posted this....it's tasty! * Exported from MasterCook * BEST BBQ SAUCE Recipe By : Serving Size : 0 Preparation Time :0:00 Categories : Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method -------- ------------ -------------------------------- 1/4 cup ketchup 1 teaspoon dry mustard 1/4 cup dark rum 2 cloves garlic -- crushed 1 tablespoon fresh gingerroot -- chopped finely 1 cup brown sugar -- firmly packed 1/4 cup soy sauce 1/2 cup chili sauce 1/2 cup peach or orange marmalade 1/4 cup Hoisin Sauce 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce 1 teaspoon chili powder 1 dash black pepper There were no further directions, so I put it all in a saucepan and simmered it for about 10 minutes, then let it cool. Re: Sauces for a party... - Old Bay - 05-26-2011 I would buy some thick "Bone Sucking Sauce" for the pork. Nobody makes any better!! Re: Sauces for a party... - cjs - 05-26-2011 Laura, C@H has a couple of sauce that I bet would be good to include - they are both from issue # 63 and go with the Coke-brined Grilled Chicken Bourbon BBQ 1/2 cup brown sugar 1/4 cup each: ketchup, apple cider vinegar & bourbon 1 T. worcestershire sauce Simmer the ingred. together for 5 minutes. Off heat, season with: salt and red pepper flakes to taste. Sweet Carolina 1/4 cup each: honey, apple cider vinegar & prepared yellow mustard 1/2 tsp. salt Simmer the ingredients together for 5 minutes. Off heat, season with: red pepper flakes to tasste. These are really tasty sauces. Almost forgot this one which has the bonus of being heart healthy and is delicious. * Exported from MasterCook * BARBECUE SAUCE - Heart Healthy***** Recipe By :Choices for a Healthy Heart, Joseph C. Piscatella 2 can tomato sauce -- (15 oz.) 1/3 c cider vinegar 2/3 c white wine vinegar 1/4 c liquid smoke flavoring 1 1/2 tsps tabasco sauce 1 1/2 tsps Dijon mustard 3 clove garlic -- peeled 1/3 c brown sugar IN a med. stock pot, combine ingred. Bring to a boil over high heat, stirring frequently. Reduce heat & simmer, uncovered, 1 1/2 hours. NOTE: Sauce will keep 4-5 weeks in frig & may be frozen. The flavor is superior to that of commercial barbecue sauce - per cookbook author. (and, I agree) Yield:"5 c" ---- Maryann, I don't think I've seen the one you posted before - sounds very good - copied! Re: Sauces for a party... - labradors - 05-26-2011 Sweet Chilli Sauce Re: Sauces for a party... - luvnit - 05-26-2011 Thanks Maryann, that does look like a good one. The white bbq is from the C@H grilling book. It is a mayo based sauce with a touch of horseradish. We use it a lot and love, love, love it. I can post it if you don't have their grilling book. Thanks Jean, I forgot about the sauces with the coke-brined chicken. They were good too. I am excited to see everyone try the different sauces. Re: Sauces for a party... - cjs - 05-26-2011 That's a fun idea, Laura! Re: Sauces for a party... - Trixxee - 05-26-2011 Quote: So like a take-off of Arby's Horsey Sauce? I like the idea. Re: Sauces for a party... - Mare749 - 05-26-2011 That sounds like a horseradish sauce that we buy all the time that Ron loves. I'll bet it's ever better homemade. Re: Sauces for a party... - Gourmet_Mom - 05-26-2011 I've tried several from C@H in the past and found some I really like. Unfortunately, I won't be able to look them up until Friday or Saturday, maybe. I'm exhausted and finally have an evening to relax my brain. If I get a chance before then, I'll post them here. |
