Honduras - Old Bay - 02-17-2012

I have been reading about the 300 plus prisoners that died in the fire, The article mentioned that Honduras has the highest murder rate in the world. Rob, is this like Mexico? Drug cartels--mostly in the cities? Is travel safe? Are the police good cops--are you safe saying anything on line?

Re: Honduras - cjs - 02-17-2012

I've been wondering the same thing, Bill - What a catastrophe

Re: Honduras - pjcooks - 02-17-2012

I, too, was going to start this topic but held off because of Rob. I read the same thing you read, and it startled and concerned me. Frightening.

Re: Honduras - labradors - 02-18-2012

The last count I heard on the local news was 362. Very sad.

Lots of drugs and gangs - especially in Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula, but not as bad where I am.

Mostly, as with just about anywhere else, if you don't do anything stupid, you'll probably be okay. Don't go around wearing a lot of jewelry, don't walk through the streets late at night, etc., etc., etc.

Re: Honduras - Harborwitch - 02-18-2012

It's very sad. Be safe!

Thanks.

Re: Honduras - Gourmet_Mom - 02-18-2012

I can't imagine! Stay safe, my friend!

BTW, do I need to worry about my mom traveling to Guatemala next month?

Re: Honduras - Mare749 - 02-19-2012

Probably a lot depends on where your mom is staying, Daphne. Most resorts are gated and have security.

Re: Honduras - Gourmet_Mom - 02-19-2012

They'll be building two "houses" in the countryside. I'm not sure exactly where. It's a mission trip.

Re: Honduras - Mare749 - 02-19-2012

Oh, sorry, I just don't know what to say about that.
