"Soft" food suggestions - HappyHomemaker - 05-23-2012

Hi everyone... Jim is going to have dental (gum) surgery tomorrow morning so I am looking for soft foods to feed him besides the basic jelloSmile Any ideas?

Does it have to be cold? Maybe some sort of soufflé, Polenta, Custard, Mashed potatoes w/ gravy, pate? Cream of "pick your veggie" soups?

HappyH - Best wishes for Jim and his surgery.

ETA: I am now a "Master Chef", post #500.

When I had all four of my wisdom teeth out at the same time, I lived on Boston Market's tortilla soup for a few days. LOL!

How about smoothies? By adding granola, peanut butter, tofu or whey powder, you could add a good protein boost to them, as well.

I like the idea of polenta! On the shopping list as of now!

Congrats on your Master Chef titleSmile

Peanut butter smoothies are now on the list too…I have some protein powder to add and maybe a bananaSmile

Hmm, peanut butter smoothies sound good even if you don't need the softness!! good ideas for you, Jolene, and good luck to your husband with the surgery.

Ohh, a peanut butter smoothie does sound good! But don't let him use a straw to drink it with.

There's always applesauce. I love applesauce.

Here is a delicious soup recipe that Jean posted for us. I believe it was from Cuisine, but forgot to note which issue.

* Exported from MasterCook *

Zucchini-Parmesan Soup
makes 4 1/2 cups

Sweat in 3 T. unsalted butter:
4 cups zucc, diced (about 1 lb.)
1 cup onions, diced
1 T. garlic, minced

Stir in; puree:
2 cups chicken broth (I used a combination of chicken & corn stocks)**
1/4 tsp. ground nutmet
1/2 cup carrot, diced
1/2 cup heavy cream (I used evaporated milk instead)**
1/4 cup parmesan, grated

Finish with:
2 T. minced fresh parsley
Salt & pepper to taste

Sweat zucc, onion, and garlic in butter in a large saucepan over medium heat.
Cook for 10 min, stirring occasionally.

Stir in broth and nutmeg, and bring to a boil
Reduce heat and simmer till zucc is very soft, 5 min.
Puree 1/2 the soup in a blender or food processor, then return it to the pan with carrot, cream, and parmesan.
Simmer until carrot is tender and cheese melts, 5-8 min, stirring often.

Finish with parsley, salt & pepper.

How about a nice Gazpacho soup? I have a great recipe, but unfortunately it's at work and I'm not.

Jolene, how is Jim doing? I just thought of another Cuisine recipe that sounded good, but I can't remember if I made it or not. I think it might be in the "Perfect Pasta" book and had a meat sauce over polenta. Let me know if you want it and I'll type it up for you.
