Blanch or no blanch? - DFen911 - 08-25-2012

Well I just got 5lbs of green beans. So I plan on freezing them in 1/2lb packages. Never did this before so wondering do I blanch them first or just wash thoroughly, dry and package?

A cooking show by Howie Mandel?

Rinse, drain, trim, blanch for three minutes, ice down for three minutes, drain, bag with as much air removed as possible, freeze.

Denise, I always blanch green beans 3-4 minutes or till they look a nice bright green, drain very well and freeze. Hope I'm not to late to be of help

And, don't cover them (but you probably know that).

All blanched and packaged. I wish I could post pictures here from Facebook. Anyway, this was an experience. I have large pots with which to blanch, but I still don't have a stove. All I have is a small 2 burner camping stove. So had to use a small pot and blanch about 4 oz at a time. 16 blanching cycles later I have eight 8oz bags all vacuum packed and in the freezer.

Now rumor has it Erin has a killer green bean soup recipe I need
