Mandolins - Roxanne 21 - 04-19-2006 What do you use for those really thin sliced onions etc.?? I have a madolin but it seems as though I waste half of it with BIG chunks--and I'm afraid that I will take off my fingertip---even though I use the guard!! Re: Mandolins - cjs - 04-19-2006 I leave as much of each end of the onion as I can - just really kind of clean it off; then I cut it in half horizontally and start cutting large (cut side) down, then when it's too thin to do much more you just really have root. I can't use the gloves - they seem to get in my way. I use the guard, maybe it just takes practice so you're more comfortable w/the machine.
