Tamales - Cooking time - DFen911 - 12-24-2009

Ok so last year I made home made tamales. I can at least say I did it once, but probably not ever again.

This year I bought 2 dozen, uncooked. The woman told me for one dozen cook about 30-40 minutes. I skeptical because when I did my own it was almost 2 hours. Everything I've read on the net says it can take 1.5 to 3 hours (depending how packed they are).

These are about 2" wide and 3" long. I'm just wondering now cause this lady was adament about the time so if they aren't done my dinner is going to be way off schedule

Good luck Denise!

Maybe she said that because they have already been pre-cooked to a certain degree, so you'll just be finishing them.

Oh they turned out great! I cooked for 30 minutes, and a few them still had dots of white masa so I continued for 10 minutes and they were done.

Came out very tasty!

Must have been precooked, I'm thinking. I'm glad it turned out, Denise.
