Saturday's Dinner - 1/9? - cjs - 01-09-2010

Can't remember what happened, but we didn't get to Jacques' pork dish earlier this week, so will have it tonight.

This week must have really gotten screwed up, we're having another dinner that was scheduled, for brunch this a.m. with champagne, of course. (but this bottle will not be near the treat the last bottle of champagne we had was, Miss Daphne!!!!!) Grilled chicken & avocado bites.

Oh, and someone gave us a bag (don't ask me why ) of Pirate's Booty - Aged white cheddar - puffed rice and corn. OMG, these darn things are dangerous - as in, bet you can't eat just one. "They even have the nerve to print on the pkg. "All Natural - Good for You!) Horsepuckie, once you have one you can't quit. So, I'm going to add them to the popcorn bread; I think the flavor will be great!

So, after all my chatering, what are you all up to?

I can't decide. I was going to do either a stroganoff or the recipe Labs posted, but I'm not sure that's what I want. I'll have to cruise through MC...I'll get back with ya'. Maybe somebody will inspire me.

More oven time!

Indian-spiced roast salmon, mashed dumpling squash with Indian spices, and Trader Joe's naan.

Funny, India is such a warm climate, yet I cook Indian food much more in the winter months...

I'll bet that would make incredible popcorn bread!

I'm going to dig in the freezer and see if I can find some lamb chops I froze with a Middle Eastern rub. That and couscous with veggies.

Pot roast for us!

Pulled pork sandwiches. We will be watching the playoffs so I don't want to be in the kitchen much.

Love that TJ's Naan, Vicki. We are having grilled shrimp, some San Francisco treat and a big salad. I think it's around 80 outside so this is perfect.

LOL I think I will be having a balogna sandwich since I don't want any leftovers and I had chili from the freezer for lunch. Tomorrow my sister and I leave for Mississippi to visit the casinos for a few days. I will be back sometime on Wednesday. Wish us luck please. [Image: casino%20777.gif]

Good gracious Trixxee...rub it in why don't you...LOL!

It's in the mid 30's and going down with the sun here. But I'm braving the cold to BBQ ribs. We'll have corn on the cob and salad. I've got 3 loaves of Crusty Country French Bread in the oven, almost done. Then I'm putting in a Carrot Cake. "The employee" requested that as his Birthday cake. Jean, I'm using your Lunch Pail recipe! YUM!

Oh, I hope you like it as much as we have for years, Daphne.

Well, the report on the Revised Popcorn bread is - it tastes just like the original popcorn recipe, maybe a hint of the cheddar cheese, but not enough to combat the added sodium and calories in this silly product. The rest is going in the garbage if the kids next door aren't home.

But, I did make one success today - Cream Cheese Ice Cream - Apricot & Toasted Almond. I added too many almonds, so will try again with less and more apricot pulp. But it really is tasty and to drizzle over, I reduced the apricot juice with some late harvest zin - now that is really tasty!

1/9/10 - served with a Kiona Late Harvest Zin and Apricot reduction -

1 1/2 cup Zin (a split)
3/4 cup apricot juice
pinch of each: cayenne & fresh ground nutmeg

Reduce to 3/4 cup.

Good luck, Icy!!
