Despite this morning's coup, things are quiet where I am. We'll see what happens.
In case you haven't heard the news yet, or your local news just isn't reporting anything about it, Honduran president Manuel ("Mel") Zelaya - a good friend of Hugo Chavez and Fidel Castro - had been trying to hold an illegal referendum, today, to make it possible for him to run for re-election.
This morning, the military arrested and exiled him (apparently to Costa Rica), and the military are still keeping watch over Tegucigalpa (the capital), although very little disruption has been reported.
So far, everything is quiet and calm here, in La Ceiba, but Zelaya had been saying that he wanted "constitutional reform" so that the poor people would be able to have a say, instead of having the government run by the "elite rich" (sound like the campaign speeches of anyone else we know?). In reality, he was a socialist with ties to Venezuelan upstart Hugo Chavez (who continues to stockpile weapons and to call the U.S. a threat). Actually, a couple of days ago, Chavez said that if a military coup were attempted, that Venezuela would intervene. So far, nothing has come of that, but we'll just have to wait and see.

If blueberry muffins have blueberries in them, what do vegan muffins have?
