Well, it's gonna be a doozy! It's HUGE - 650 miles across!! I'm going to be thinking about you all in the Carolinas and Virginia. Already the Jersey shore is being evacuated from Cape May to the north. We heard the Navy ordered 28 boats out to sea from Virginia.

When Isabella hit about 7 years ago, Hubby and I took off a couple days before it hit the area and went out sailing on the Delaware. We kept seeing these half million dollar deep sea fishing boats coming up the river for safe harbor. And they were coming from the Chesapeake!

A day later we saw the 160-ft mega-yatch, Mi Gaea, parked just outside the Tacony Palmyra bridge. What a sight that was!!

Please all you fellow East Coasters, check in when you can. We will hopefully not lose power to play with the Wii, but have the Cribbage board handy just in case.

Hurricane Irene BarbaraS Well, it's gonna be ...
We're hanging tight here. Thanks to iPhone, iPad, and a car charger, I shouldn't go missing. I sure am glad we jumped in to make the purchases! It should come in handy in the next few days! We expect to loose power. Now if only the generator will crank, we're set. The dead trees in the yard and ginoumous trees in my yard are a different story. OIY! Luckily, we have a safe place to go if it gets bad. Praying for minimal property damage at this point!

Hey ya'll--drain your generators now!! Refill and make sure it runs. We lost power for an entire week during Ike. Get plenty of bottled water and bottled green tea. We saved most of our food with the generator--oh get an extra 5 gallon can of $4.00 gas--good investment. Good luck--lots of love coming to everyone out there--lots of prayers--lots of empathy--been there, done that, and don't want to DO IT AGAIN!!!! Be well, Bill & Jane (P.S. Stay in touch if possible)

Generator? What generator? Oh! The one Hubby wants to buy tomorrow! Oh, thaaaaat generator...

We have a couple of battery camping lamps and our GE Monogram is dual fuel and our water is gas heated. We're just concerned about the fridges if we lose power.

Thanks Bill!!

No generator here either. Had an incredible storm blow here today, no power at the winery, so lost a day of prep. Stocked up on batteries/candles etc, so we should be good. we have a few casstte stoves, and lots of fuel.
Practice safe lunch. Use a condiment.

William's worried that the generators have set up so long they won't work. May be buying a new one. That's his project tomorrow....fix or buy. It'll stink if they don't work. Although, we HAVE had them for over 15 years....Bertha, maybe? Lots of hurricanes, ice storms, and early work at the farm.

You took the words out of my mouth Bill & Jane! If you haven't used the generator recently the gas is probably no good. Another thing - make sure the generator is not going to be in water, and don't run it indoors because of the exhaust if you are going to be in the house. Make sure you have prescriptions, important papers & insurance info with you if you have to leave.

Please all know that we will be thinking about you all this weekend and saying prayers. Stay safe and keep in touch as you can! Love & hugs - Bob & Sharon

Thanks, Sharon. We have a raised deck outside the bedroom/kitchen/den, so we're cool with all that. William's afraid the carburetor will need to be replaced or repaired and no time to fix it. Nothing like waiting for the last minute. OIY!

Not liking the looks of this:

For those of you with or getting generators: Remember to operate them only in well ventilated areas. It's always so tragic, after these storms, to hear about people who survived the hurricane but silently died of carbon-monoxide poisoning.

And, it is amazing how many of those stories we hear in the aftermath, also.

Lorraine, you didn't mention how much damage to your catering items at the winery? Hope you didn't have any.

Not much comfort, but you all know we'll all be glued to the news to track the storm.
