Chicken Kiev - Madmen

  Re: (...)
I watched Mad Men the other day and (for those who do not watch it): The scene was from 1964, in a fancy restaurant, they orderedf Chicken Kiev. Then one of the characters says something like, "You get a bib with that."

Really? Chicken Kiev? How has this recipe changed from back then?

Anyone remember Chicken Kiev served with a bib?

Just curious...

Oh well, back to my Cabbage Soup Diet.

I could understand having a bib for chicken Kiev, considering the amount of butter stuffed inside the chicken breast. Maybe newer versions of the recipe aren't as overflowing because they've been made "healthier" (Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr).

One of my favorite shows! I think there was a suggestive comment made by Roger Sterling about the Kiev. That Roger!

My son had Chicken Kiev at a wedding reception dinner and the butter squirted out onto his best shirt. It was ruined. A reason for the bib?

Haven't seen this show, but have been hearing lots of rave reviews.

Laura - are you really on the cabbage soup diet??? Tried that once and it was definitly a test of fortitude!

Chicken Kiev is supposed to "squirt" butter when you cut into it! That's why the bib is needed.

There are some suggestions for dieting--(I'm awake at this terrible hour because I slept wrong on my neck and have ice on it)--
1. Never read about butter
2. Don't think about what you had for dinner
3. Don't talk to your foodie friends
4. Go to bed early.

Well, I seem to break the cardinal rules everyday here...
Working on the book AND receiving 3 publications from C@H this week.

Feel better, Bill!
