Thank you so much, everyone, for the birthday greetings! What a great "topping" to my day.

Today I didn't do anything that I didn't want to do. I made pancakes with chopped cherries, mini chocolate chips, and almonds for breakfast. I went out for a nice 3-mile run in beautiful weather, then later we drove down to check on the lake house. We had planned to stay there for a couple of days, but the guy who was supposed to install new garage doors last November called yesterday and said that he had Thursday and Friday open and could he do it then. Of course.

So it was a quick trip to the lake house, but we went to dinner at a great Mediterranean/ Middle Eastern restaurant on the way home. Shish kebabs can be ordinary, but the way that they make them is incredible-- I can't determine what is in the marinade, but the chicken practically falls off the skewers and is so delicious. It's served on a rice pilaf topped with a dark, spicy, tomato-y sauce. Yum.

And once home, double-chocolate cupcakes (with candles) and presents! No kitchen stuff, but some pretty, summery jewelry, a new heart rate monitor, and new garden tools (a pruner and a saw-- it will make the work I have to do outside so much easier).

The whole day I didn't as much as touch a putty knife or a garden trowel... it was great.

Oh, and my parents called and sang happy birthday to me.

It has been a wonderful birthday!

Vicci, it sounds like a perfect day...well, except for the handyman spoiling your time at the lake. Maybe you guys can spend the weekend at the lake after the handyman finishes?
