Trixxee, have a wonderful time! My BIL's family has a place near Shaver. Since he grew up in Fresno, that probably makes sense.
Maryann, no I didn't really recap the vacation. Sorry! We got home and I had to prep for our annual 4th of July weekend with friends (ours and the kids). We had a blast, but it was sure nice to get our lake house back to ourselves last night!
We had a wonderful time in California. We flew into San Jose and drove to Tahoe. Bay Area traffic, even at 12:30 on Saturday is horrendous. I don't miss it at all, and I live in Atlanta...
Our
cabin at
Fallen Leaf Lake is not nearly a plush as the one Trixxee is renting...we don't have insulated walls or a paved driveway, and the heating is a 1920's wood stove that I love cooking on. Needless to say, it's a summer-only place!
It was pretty windy, so we did a lot more hiking than water-skiing or swimming, but the hikes were amazing. If you've ever taken Hwy 50 into the Tahoe Basin, you've seen
Horsetail Falls. We followed the trail to the Desolation Wilderness sign and then were on our own to the top of the falls. We hiked to
Lake Aloha but there was much more snow than in this image, so we got lost a few times. It's really hard to follow a trail covered by a few feet of snow! We finished our hike at the trailhead at Lily Lake. We were really glad we had a car there so we could drive back to the cabin. We were tired!
I wore my Fitbit the entire hike, and by the end had earned two badges--the waterfall badge for climbing 300+ flights of stairs, and the snow boot badge for exceeding 45,000 steps in a day. Considering I had no cell phone reception the entire hike, I thought that was a bit creepy. I guess if you're carry any form of technology, you are being tracked!
