So tell me, please...

just when is a recipe considered "original"?

I'm constantly taking recipes, reducing the fat, adding more whole grains to make healthy, tweaking the spices and other flavors, and coming up with something that may look and taste similar to the base recipe but is quite different in its nutritional makeup. Can I call that an "original"?

Rule of thumb is, a list of ingredients can not be copyrighted but the method can be - so if you substantially change/alter the method, you are good to go.

I googled a recipe I'm working on right now just to see what I could find and I found at least 8 versions all claiming to be originals and all very similar. It's a real gray area, that's for sure.

"Ron, you've gotta stop believing those tv commercials!"

I have intense admiration for the guy. He was almost bankrupted at 65 when the freeway went around his successful little business. Rather than feeling sorry for himself and going on welfare, he hit the road and engineered one of the most successful franchises in history. He wouldn't listen to the MBAs who tried to change his formula - he fired them.
