New Telemarketer Trick to Beware Of!
#6
  Re: (...)
Over the last week, I've been getting a call from an 888 phone number on my cell phone about every day and sometimes twice a day. Then one time it was after 10 PM. But the caller never left a message. I have my cell registered on the Do Not Call list. So, I thought maybe it was not a telemarketer.

The other day I answered the call from this number and a young man said Hello and then we were disconnected. I asked my assistant if she calls numbers back and she told me about this new "trick" unscruplous telemarketers use. They call your number multiple times from the same number and if your curiousity gets the best of you and you call them back, then you just voided yourself off the Do Not Call for that company because you called them and that makes you their customer!

You can check if a phone number might be a problem at
http://whocallsme.com/ and http://whocalled.us/

You can file a complaint on the DNC website.
https://www.donotcall.gov/default.aspx

I left a message on the first two sites and then filed a complaint on the DNC website on Tuesday. Got two calls on Wednesday and none today. What a hassle!

Just another thing you need to be aware of...you are not going to like it, but I found out the hard way, like you, with a similar experience...they can STILL CALL YOU without "getting into trouble" for 30 DAYS!!!!! THIRTY!!!

I guess this wouldn't work if a real person is on the end of the phone when you answer, but my ex hus (who develops stuff in voice recognition for Intel) said to say hi and not hello when you pick up. Apparently the softwear is written to respond to something that sounds like hello, so hi is read as a non existant number.

I'll find out more next time I see him.
