Poviticia
For Dough
1 pint of lukewarm milk
2 Tablespoons sugar
1 square of margarine or butter
Salt - I use a dash
1 package of yeast
2 beaten eggs
* about 6 cups of unsifted flour
1 beaten egg white for sealing dough
Dissolve yeast in milk: add sugar, margarine, salt eggs, and start mixing in flour - Use margarine to knead your dough ( a little Crisco is ok too.)
Let is raise one. Approx. 45 minutes.
Filling:
1 .lb ground walnuts (finely ground I use food processor)
2 1/2 cups sugar
2 Tablespoons of honey
4 eggs
1 reg size canned Milk - Carnation
1 or 2 squares of butter
Cinnamon
dash of salt to Taste
Mix ingredients and stir - constantly let cook until thick approx. 25/30 minutes Use a good heavy pan. low heat
Now for the dough - flour your table top - roll and stretch dough as big as you can
(approx. 32X52 inches rectangle shape)
both my husband and I work on the rolling part (not always a true rectangle either)
When you have the dough rolled out spread the filling (cooled slightly)
on dough and spread it all over the dough - except leave approx 1 inch clean on one side of dough - brush a beaten egg white on the one inch side and start rolling dough up from the other. Roll it up like a jelly roll. Fold in the sides as you go when rolling up the dough. Lay your bread pans out to meaure how long to cut your Poviticia. Seal ends and sides with brushed egg white.
And by pinching the ends together (to keep filling inside)
Bake 325 / 350 for one hour or a little less. Use shiny pans and grease them .
This recipe originally was rolled up jelly roll stype and then rolled up snail Fashion.
I however cut the bread to fit bread pans Each reicpe will make 5 - 7 loaves
When baked - remove to rack to cool
I make topping of honey -powdered sugar and butter and spread on tops or you
can put melted butter on each one.
I got this recipe from my aunt in Montana - many years ago.
I use my Kitchen Aide Mixer to knead dough and let it rise in a greased bowl.
I usually begin my filling first. - I have my husband stirring the mixture -
cook on low heat. - as it will burn easily and stir and stir
Filling will become darker in color and thick.
let cool.
We make this bread and give as christmas Gifts
Serve - slice thin and serve with butter. or heat slightly in Micro with butter. frezes well.
I use King Arthur flour for best results.
Please let me know it you have any questions - and I hope you enjoy this as much as I have.

Everything will be all right in the end. So if it is not right, then it's not yet the end.
