Christmas Book Wish List
#11
  Re: (...)
It's the end of October already and we've got to get going with this list!!!

I've been really bad this year with the ability to buy used books, have been buying as I covet a title, so my list right now is really short - like one book.

Ina Garten's Back to the Basics - I like her ideas.

Maybe I can get some ideas for Roy from you all -

I know Roy likes to work with wood. I bought Jame a Complete Guide to Canoe Paddle Making. But I got so excited when it arrived, I knew he was gonna love it, so I gave it to him already duh me
Now I have to think of something else for Christmas.

Having heard so many wonderful things about it, I would put Culinary Artistry on my list. Since we don't have books (or even bookstores) like that down here, though, I haven't even seen it yet, but several people have recommended it to me.
If blueberry muffins have blueberries in them, what do vegan muffins have?

Oh Cis - what a great idea and there are so many canoists (how the heck would that be spelled???) around this area. In fact the owner/wine maker of our 2nd favorite winery is a 'person who canoes' and sells them also. hmmmmmm

Labs, I hope you run across Culinary Artistry one day soon - it is such a wonderful book!

Kind of the same way around here. I guess we'll have to see how much room we'll have for books.

I know Bob want's Gordon Ramsey's new book. I'm still kinda jonesing for The Arab Table and I'm sure I could come up with more - just waiting for the iron to get hot so I can finish up the first pile of ironing today.

I'm being bad. I'm ordering the book for the review this weekend and will TRY to only order the Pepin book, but I REALLY want to order the Culinary Artistry NOW.

Here is my current list, but my nickname is "Lorraine" and I change my mind easily, so I'll be watching this thread closely...LOL!

Fast Food My Way by Jacques Pepin
Julia and Jacques Cooking at Home by Julia Child and Jacques Pepin
Nigella Express by Nigella Lawson
The Art of Simple Food: Notes, Lessons, and Recipes from a Delicious Revolution by Alice Waters
Sushi Made Easy, Nobuko Tsuda OR Vegetarian Sushi Made Easy, Hiroko Fukuhara & Yasuko Takahata
What to Drink with What You Eat
Culinary Artistry
Daphne
Keep your mind wide open.

I was really bad this year. I ordered the books I really wanted, and am giving them to Gill for Christmas.

Asian Tapas ; Small bites, Big Flavours (Alain Ducasse)
Bite Size: Elegant recipes for Entertaining (Francois Payard))
Elegant Irish Cooking (Noel Cullen - ChezTom's mentor)
Life Beyond The Line ( deals with FOH - Noel Cullen)

I'd really like a good vegetarian and or Indian one, but I'll wait until I go through what he has, as i know he has several.
Practice safe lunch. Use a condiment.

Be sure to share a few of those eggplant ones, when you get a chance, Lorraine.
Jean, were you able to find the canoe paddle book?
I've been over at BetterWorldBooks and found some cool ones too. Paula Deen has a new one called "My First Cookbook" for cooking with kids. Great for the young moms on your list. My AlmostSIL is a history buff, so he may be getting "Boone" and one about Nathan Hale. Books make such good gifts imho.

Look again, Cis. They said "elegant," not "eggplant."
