Just can't seem to master the search feature. How do all of you find what you are looking for?
A while back, probably a year ago, some of you were posting recipes for dog cookies. I had just lost Gizmo at the time, so made the mistake of not copying. Charlie (my new pup) doesn't seem to like commercial treats much.

I can't find it either, but here's my recipe.
1 3/4 cups whole wheat flour
1/2 cup cornmeal ( that's for our soutern friends)
1/2 cup uncooked oatmeal
1/4 cup rye kernels
1/2 tsp garlic powder ( or just chop some raw0
1/2 tsp salt
3 Tbsp dessicated liver powder ( this is gross stuff I got at the health food store, and I used to add way more)
1/2 cup meat drippings ( bacon or whatever) or shortening
1 egg
1/2 cup of your best stock ( don't scrimp just because it's for the dogs)
Combine flour and seasonings. Add meat drippings. Blend until mixture resembles oatmeal. Add egg, and enough stock to form a ball. Knead dough for a few minutes. Roll out 1/2 inch thick. Cut, using your dog bone cutter. Place on oiled backing sheet, or just parchment paper. Prick with fork. Bake at 350 for 25 to 30 minutes. Cool on rack.
Practice safe lunch. Use a condiment.

Here is the recipe I have used. It has always been very well received. Also notice that the person who posted it also included a note (that could easily be missed) saying, "Bacon grease or meat drippings can be used in place of shortening." As I've mentioned before, I like to cook bacon by baking it on parchment-lined baking sheets at 350F, as we did in the restaurant (i.e. not in a frying pan, not in the broiler, and not on top of a rack), and to bake off a full package of bacon as soon as I get it, so that perfect strips of bacon are all ready and waiting in the fridge. Well, whenever I make these dog biscuits, I cook a package of bacon, as described, then use those drippings in place of the shortening, as that note from the original poster of the recipe suggests. That way, the biscuits have even MORE flavour. A friend's Italian Greyhound jumps four feet into the air whenever I take these over.
If blueberry muffins have blueberries in them, what do vegan muffins have?
