Saturday 11/8 Dinner?

  Re: (...)
It has rained for three days straight around here - rain rain, not just drizzle...flooding going on around the Seattle area. Erin, are you on higher ground? In the Port Angeles area we don't usually have this much rain because of the 'blue hole' but it's not helping us with this storm.

So, since the Passport weekend is here, guess we'll just swim winery to winery!

I'm not planning any dinner tonight, I'm sure it will be ruined with all the offerings at the wineries - we'll be having at the different stops -

Amuse Bouche (assorted) with Rhone varietals
Spanish Paella with Tempranillo
Fresh Apple pie with Rhubarb wine
Alsatian Tarte Flambe with Lemberger (Bill, did you and Jane get to taste any Lemberger while you were up here??)
Tuscan white bean salad with herbed Foccacia and Salumi with Barbera
Canapes de Fromage with Bordeaux varieties
Linguisa Sausage with cheese and hearty bread with Port O' Call

dinner after that? I don't think so! What are you all up to?
Retired and having fun writing cookbooks, tasting wine and sharing recipes with all my friends.

I have the never got cooked last night rib-eye steaks and just pulled a couple of pounds of shrimp to shell and de-vein to go along with it. Thinking Rathbun rubbed rib-eyes and shrimp and maybe some rice and vegetables. We'll see how the day plays out.

I wanna go with you Jean! Then I'll stop off and have dinner with LJ!

I was SUPPOSED to have my review dinner tonight, but it's official, my review will be late. There is NO decent meat and cheese choices around here, but I'm going to Southport Monday, so I'll be able to pick up my antipasto platter stuff while I'm there. You would think I'd be able to pull of the dinner that night, but I'm going to help my mom with some stuff. That guarantees a LATE return home. I'll be lucky to cook that night at all!

SOOOO, now I have NO idea what I'm having for dinner! The lo mien is out, no noodles! ARGGGG!!!!

Oh Boy. We are pretty soggy. We are at the bottom of a hill, but the lake is after us. Good thing the lake was low. It has come up 1 1/2 feet in the last two days. Our carport keeps flooding, but that is not too bad.

We are off to a silent auction for the Gymnastics booster club tonight and the Muckelshoot casino. Probably just a mediocre dinner. But it is a date!

Hot and breezy here. Laura called and is soggy again. Not sure she's used to all that rain being from S. Calif.

Tonight's menu -

Grilled Chicken Chardonnay
Maytag Blue Cheese and Pear Salad
Potato/Onion Gratin

Worked late today, but managed to get some sort of dinner on the table-grilled filets (in the pouring rain), mine with blue cheese butter, port sauce, steamed green beans, rolls and lobster tails in butter sauce. Giant M&M cookies for dessert, well, him at least.

I try to make something new and different for the kids on the weekends but when I work late, just getting supper on the table is good enough for me!

Ok it's not fair you guys get all the rain...I want cold wet weather too so I can crank up my ovens and bake and cook, and make stews.

It's still salad weather and grilling weather here.

Oldest son is visiting and so I put aside the new and made up a chicken pot pie for the boy! Tomorrow I'll do the Guiness Pot Roast with mashers and peas...good old comfort food! That should hold him over for little while. The college has several venues to choose from to eat, but he tends to choose junk food.

Ended up making the shrimp in a sangria, butter and oil mixture with orange and lime zest and a touch of minced garlic, sea salt and fresh ground pepper. Made a soy garlic butter sauce for dipping. The steaks were rubbed with fresh chopped garlic, parsley, red onions, red basil, fresh sage and thyme. Due to temperatures well below freezing I did a very quick pan sear and finished under the broiler. I added a sesame and soy bbq sauce right before they went under the broiler to continue with a touch of an oriental theme. Finished with some of the orange and lime zest as they rested before cutting. Placed them on a bed of fried rice with green, red, yellow and orange bell peppers and red onions for colour and some flavour...all and all not too bad of a meal.

Oh, we had a garage sale and welcomed our son Eric with breakfast tacos and finished with a dinner of meatloaf, mashed potatoes, mustard greens, black-eyed peas, and Southern cornbread. OMG--every now and then. He is helping us with our outdoor Christmas decorations--bless that boy!! I hate that part of the season.
