It does look good. I like that it is made of brown rice. Laura (was it Laura) I make it in my rice cooker and it takes way longer than the white rice takes - like 2 hours to 20 minutes for white. But it has a special brown rice setting.
I have also heard - but have not tried - that a good way to cook brown rice is in the oven. * Exported from MasterCook * Baked Brown Rice Recipe By :Alton Brown Serving Size : 4 Preparation Time :0:00 Categories : Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method -------- ------------ -------------------------------- 1 1/2 cups brown rice -- medium or short grain 2 1/2 cups water 1 tablespoon unsalted butter 1 teaspoon kosher salt Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Place the rice into an 8-inch square glass baking dish. Bring the water, butter, and salt just to a boil in a kettle or covered saucepan. Once the water boils, pour it over the rice, stir to combine, and cover the dish tightly with heavy-duty aluminum foil. Bake on the middle rack of the oven for 1 hour. After 1 hour, remove cover and fluff the rice with a fork. Serve immediately. It does look good Denise. I'll have to try broccoli some time. I have never been terribly happy with the well in the center method, but then, I don't have a wok, so that may be the problem. I have to use a skillet. I usually cook everything separate, then throw it in a specific order: onions, cooked meat, cooked rice, raw/frozen/stir fried veggies (peas, snow peas, sugar snaps, carrots, etc.), cooked egg, green onions, soy sauce (not much, but more on the table), and serve.
I have only tried brown rice once and was not happy with the texture. But it was a long time ago. I'll have to try it again soon.

Daphne, I think we were typing at the same time. I just edited my post to include a baked brown rice recipe. I haven't tried it but it got great reviews.

Thanks Erin. I'm gonna give that a try, but I'm going to wait until I can get some good rice. I think I'll try to saute some onion for a few minutes first, then add the dry rice, then the liquid and bake.

I often use Alton's oven baked brown rice. Works like a charm.
